I was a smart kid, my mom never bought me anything, yet my brother gets a 95% on his history exam and she buys him a video game.
Go figure.

the way it works in my house is,
do superwell in school (high 90's average) = normality continues
do less than superwell = get yelled at for hours by Temper Man (the loving father), and have all enjoyable privileges revoked (ie, breathing at my own pace)

my parents want me to be a jock, I swear. Academic achievement = hey, attaboy. Getting lower than 80% in anything = you just SUCK. Joining anything remotely sports related = OH MY GOD!
Oh, and my comp beats all for sheer fuck'd-up-edness. A local comp repair man spent 10 minutes with it, and told us it has 'gremlins'
