"A standoff between native protesters and police in southwestern Ontario escalated Thursday after a pre-dawn raid intended to evict the aboriginals from a disputed housing project site didn't work out as planned.

The Ontario Provincial Police were forced to retreat after the early morning raid on the site, which the aboriginals from Six Nations reserve say sits on native land, when protesters brought in reinforcements. Police later returned to keep watch from farther away.

...

”As a result of the behaviour of some of the protesters," he said, "officers were required to use some force in order to effect some of the arrests.”

Three officers were injured and one required stitches to his head after being hit with a bag of rocks, Deputy Commissioner Pilon said."

So.....FNC's Tony Snow is now working for G-Dub. I gotta give him credit.....I would not want to be affiliated with this cabinet.

I'm gonna miss him as a commentator.....cuz my tv is always on FNC, unless theres something specifically I'm wanting to watch.

"Geneva — The UN food agency said Friday it is halving rations to about three million people in Sudan's embattled Darfur region because of a shortage of funds, calling it a last resort and “scandalous.”

The World Food Program said it will cut rations from 2,100 calories per person, the daily minimum requirement, to 1,050.

“This is one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. Haven't the people of Darfur suffered enough?” said WFP chief James Morris"

Edit: I just read an article that says "current Canadian government has now taken the conflict in Darfur off its main agenda"

Within the next 30-90 minutes the islands are expected to start feeling effects, so I guess its a waiting game for us.

I've been watching the news pages and just saw this:

"A magnitude 8.0 earthquake struck early Thursday near the South Pacific nation of Tonga, prompting tsunami warnings for as far away as Fiji and New Zealand. The warning was lifted after a tsunami of less than 61 centimetres was recorded.
