when you can't, ever, ever, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVERRRRR win an argument with your family because they're all so incredibly stubborn! especially if you know you're right, and they shoot back something at you that's completely unrelated just to get the last word. ("i never swear at you, or at anybody, and you know it!" "yeah? well the earth DOES revolve around the sun!!!")

...hitting me doesn't help the problem much either!

When people come into my independent bookstore and ask me if we sell gift cards for Barnes & Noble.

and if i as the owner of a pool decide to designate a section for peeing, that is my god given motherfucking right and no prick with a gun can tell me any different.

fact is, property owners = right. bylaw = wrong. i can't see how anybody can see this any differently. forget for a second your notions of government etc. and think about this as an isolated thing. we've got a bar owner who works his ASS off (you have NO idea how hard those guys work. owning a bar is one of the most demanding, time consuming and stressful jobs in the world) and allows smoking as it's good for business. then, some asshole who is entirely unrelated to him, and likely hasn't worked as hard in his entire life as that bar owner did last week, (politics being one of the easiest, least time consuming jobs you can have) comes along and tells him now he can't any longer.

where's the justice in THAT?

let's just repeat: you do not have the RIGHT to go to the bar. you do not have the RIGHT to work at the bar. your RIGHTS are not being violated here. nobody FORCES you to enter into an unsafe environment as the government often alleges in it's propaganda, no, you CHOOSE to do so. going to the bar is a PRIVILEGE granted to you by the OWNER. if smoking is such a big deal, open a bar and make it non smoking. you want to know why none of these existed before the bylaw? NO DEMAND. as in, NOBODY WILL GO to a non smoking bar unless forced to do so.

this bylaw wasn't motivated by public interest or public demand as i have illustrated. it was motivated by the greedy fucking government trying to get it's greedy fucking fingers just a little bit further into our fucking pockets.

and you enable them. that is what you're doing, make no mistake about it. no matter what you may think on the subject, the reality is that what i have said is true.

this is not a health issue, it's a property rights issue.

I'm too tired to debate you on your points, but I have to disagree with this. We went to a bar in Toronto. It was non-smoking. It was packed. I LOVED it. I could breathe, my throat didn't hurt me from the irritants in the smoke, I didn't smell like crap afterwards.

If I had a choice here between a smoking bar and a non-smoking one, I'd choose the non-smoking one any day and I know I'm not the only one.
