I downloaded a television series with bittorrent, but when I try to play any of the (.avi) files it tells me I don't have the appropriate codec. I know I have some sort of codec pack somewhere with a bunch in it, but obviously none are the right one. My question is, what are common or recommended codecs and where might I find them?

try those, alex. and since you obviously don't have divx either, i'd suggest downloading that too. the more codecs you have, the less the chances of playback problems.
http://www.divx.com/divx/codec.php
get the play bundle, cuz the create bundle costs money

Don't feel bad ... it's like tradition to not listen to Nikki when she gives sound advice. It took me years to finally get the codec pack that she kept telling me to get (I even came back here and asked a number of times about codec packs).

Would it be possible to send them to me via a cd?

I'll never understand why everyone here always ignores my computer advice when I'm pretty sure I've been using computers longer than anyone else here.

Alright, I got another question:
Is there anyway that I can recover my old files from my old hard drive? I really do not want to re-download them again.

Yes, but you should probably hire someone to do it for you since you're... well, you.

Hey guys, I just got a new notebook and want to install DC++, but I'm not sure which version would be the best for a notebook. I want the most compact one...
