my expectations for this album were extremely high...
yet they've been surpassed.

all that for $124.72

yeah, obviously, i just picked random cd's that got great reviews on here.

plus jessica simpson's "irresistable" for my friend's birfday tomorrow.

i hate virgin megastore. so expensive! but they have like 90% of all records existing on the face of earth... so i go there anyway.

I'm trying to listen and drown myself in Neutral Milk Hotel too, cuz i keep thinking they must be really great if they impress someone so cynical and bitter. so far i haven't clicked

I only gave the album a spin once, and I really liked what I heard... this could actually get interesting. Thanks for the recommendation.

Neutral Milk Hotel is something that takes a while to be appreciated. So I'll give you a couple words of advice.

Listen to the lyrics. They are what make the song, even though the random bagpipe, accordian, or saw make the song nice too.

In "The King Of Carrot Flowers Pt. 2 and 3" the line "I love you Jesus Christ" isn't a religious proclamation. It's quite the opposite, actually. It's meant to me a sarcastic remark for the reactions people made to the word of God, mostly pertaining to WWII.

The CD deals with two subjects. The first subject, the death of Anne Frank, is a little hard to access right away. Most of the cd revolves around her and her death. The other subject is the suicide of his friend. The last song on the cd, "Two-Headed Boy Pt. 2" is all about the death, and I think is the best song ever written.

And finally, listen to it a few times before you make a judement on it. The more you listen, the more it makes sense and the more you'll appreciate all the horns and whatnot. One or two listens won't be enough to really understand it. It makes you think without doing anything more than feeling your emotions. The way he words his feelings just kick your ass and make you love the album.

Lovedrug was my favorite one of the bunch. Minor Our Lady Peace/Muse/Sunny Day Real Estate similarities.

i doubt i can find it in Canada, but i'll probably pick it up if i can. the 6-ish songs i've listened to have definitely been worth my time.
